In France shredders are very popular.

I've used several with over 300 hrs on the same hammers.

No-one I've met actually believes they need changing.

The machines tend to produce long shreds, alot of dust and noise.

Who do you guys get to sharpen your blades? What sort of price do you pay?

My local garden machinery shop used to do mine. They used to collect everything up and then once a week send everything away to get sharpened somewhere else. I think a lot of places do this now. Prices I used to pay probably aren't relevant now though.

I did that as well, till they carelessly left the sharpening company’s paper wrapping on the blades.

So I went direct (next town) and get it done for a third of the price.

They may have done that with mine too. Note to self - pay more attention in the future.

We do this via a local hire shop, they are normally a 2 week turn around for us, but we are a little geographically challenged 😂

A two week turn around?! 😳 Almost makes it worth buying my own grinder at that point 😂

That's why you need spare blades. My place used to take exactly a week. 

I'm not sure exactly how they sharpen them. The garden machinery shop told me they were done on a giant rotating whet stone. I'm not sure if that's how they do it or not.
