He’s not wrong though is he? No more than a day.

He didn’t say what it should cost, only what it shouldn’t.

When he finds someone to agree what it shouldn't cost, and they're happy to do it, all will be well in the world 😂

It may not be the case here, but it can sometimes be the case where a preconceived "worth" attributable to the contractor actually doing the work is disproportionate in relation to the actual "value" added by getting the job completed.

Not sure I've explained that as I intended but if the extension is dependant upon having the tree removed then the tree removal becomes the critical path.  Perhaps not the element of the project that should be consigned to the lowest bidder or the person that is just about willing to do the work at a price the tree owner thinks is acceptable.

potential for theft from vehicle

Honestly this and having your chipper stolen in London is a genuine running cost I have to allow for.

The other difference between my £2k quote and the cheaper one is it allows us to pay our staff properly and give them the perks that they deserve (Gym, chiropractor, meals, full time contracts etc). The profit in the job is what covers you on days you can't work and so on. I think the disparity in quotes is some people are quoting to earn a living, other quoting to run a business.

You'll struggle to keep a good groundie alone for less than 25k a year in greater London.

You reckon only a day?Especially with the grind? It's hard to say without seeing access but chances are it's gunna be bad. I haven't used one of the turn table pedestrian grinders but they can't be much better than a normal one. Looks like it's at least gunna be a 36inch bar at the very bottom? Getting it down, shifting all that wood then grinding out a huge stump with one of those grinders is gunna be a big ask?

I think this is where the London issue comes in. You could have a climber, 2 groundies, truck and chipper stuck on the north circular for 2 hrs

Why can they not read a map between them?

Perhaps, but there’s a gate in the photo of the OPs house so some sort of entrance to remove wood etc, take out a panel of fencing, Bob is your mother’s brother.

Fair one, panel out would defo be a game changer and bring it closer to your price. Well round my way anyway not sure about London!
