I would say it’s a willow tree. That was the first thing that came to my mind when I sore the picture. And yes it was the younger bark on the tree what caught my eye. Plus he said he had been told it’s a weed they grow everywhere. 👍

I wouldn't have said catkins but something similar. I cannot remember exactly myself now, not really taken a lot of notice as iI know nothing about trees but I will keep an eye out now as we should see something on it in the next few weeks hopefully.
