Can i ask what rope you already have as you can happily use drt rope to climb srt.

I would really recommend the notch duel cam foot ascender.

Also notch quickie is better to use for a base or top anchor then a carabiner even through it has yet to receive a ce mark over here.

It's a Marlow Gecko 13mm. It's heavy AF !

The one thing with srt is to give it time and don't try it for the first time on a high pressure job that just needs to get done in a time frame.

It will take time to make the switch and once you do you wish you had done sooner.

I still use drt in trees but found srt is easier on the body.

Just like cordless long arm hedge trimmers 😉

I fully understand that. Every time a get a new bit of kit it slows me down until I'm used to it !

Looks pricey ! What will be the benefit of this piece ?

When the rope wrench first came out it was realised a stiff tether advanced the hitch better when ascending, hence why tethers are wrapped in plastic so it’s an evolution of that.

Welcome Rob,

you’ll want the same length as you would drt, you’ll still have 2 legs of the top reaching the ground even though it’s srt.

by the way, what is mrs? Merrist wood technique?

I thought it was his wife climbing ..

Edit ..I see Mick has already claimed that one ..

Just no, you will never stick with SRT.

That rope is so bouncy.

Something with minimum elasticity would be so much better.

Knew it would be rubbish, rope is on the list ! Looking forward to a lighter rope, and left to pull through where I'm at !

I have one of these but yet to climb on it.  I have quite a few friends who climb on it and rave about it.  SO for just less than a hundred knicker, ex vat.  I gave it a shot.

Also, I live in Norway and knew Brexit wouldn't help my plans to get kit from the UK so even though I didn't need it, I put in a big order in December.

Yeah, I'm going to have a look at that. It's already been recommended. I think I'll do a comparative basket with HB and see if some of my list can be bettered. Cheers

All you need to add to DRT gear is a rope wrench, a stiff tether and a foot ascender. That alone will be a huge improvement on DRT. The wrench and tether can quite realistically be home made if you can be bothered. I climb 95% SRT on a 35m rope and never needed longer, including redirects in big crowns and into different trees. Buy more stuff as you discover you want it but you don't need it to get going.

The SRT kit i use daily and recommend:  60m rope, rope wrench, maillon rapide, foot ascender, neck tether, and 2 old I to I’s with larger biners for munters hitch redirects.

I also have hand ascender which is great with a pulley or revolver attached to set up mechanical advantage system for downward sloping branch walks.
