It’s the idea of ‘educating’ clients that always rubs me up the wrong way.

Perhaps this is something I need to work on.

I have recently been saying 'I personally wouldn't for x y z reason, but ultimately you're the customer and it is your tree, I just feel the need to ensure you're making a fully informed decision'

Me and my business partner often quibble on whether its better to have a tree pruned improperly to allow it to be retained rather than no tree at all.

More clients seem responsive to fell and replants compared to previous years but I'd say that's the case for maybe 5% of fells.

No one gets to do the right thing all the time.

Even the "best" Tree firms top things sometimes and everyone,e-v-e-r-y o-n-e  does nasty things to Trees to pay for nice things for themselves.

If you reall are doing 30+ quotes per week, then thats pretty amazing to be quite honest.I think the most I have ever done was 11. However why not send your business partner out and see how he gets on?Switch it up a bit?

You are going through the same as I am just in a different part of the industry. I keep getting asked to port saws and the customers expectation is that I can take their 15 year old wreck of a saw with a cheap Chinese top end and make it in to a world beating hot saw.

Well....it ain't going to happen!!

Your dilemma is slightly different. You either sort of do what your customer wants even if it goes against your ethics, views, opinion, knowledge, preference or, if you can afford to walk, that is what you do.

Very difficult if you are needing your business to pay to put a roof over your head and food on the table and on that occasion, I guess you have to meet your customers expectations and lower your standards.

If you are relatively well off and don't give a damn.....do what you want and buy a deck chair and a good supply of books and beer!

Client this week. Needed a tree removing asap, as they are installing a phone line under it. They sent me a photo. Big dead ash. I told him call out rates which he said he couldn't afford.

I wouldn't mind, but the client lives in a very large house with about 10 acres, owns at least one rental property, has a well paid job as an eye consultant and when I went to look today pulled up in his electric Jag..

It's also quite annoying as I visited this time last year and told him his ash were in a poor state, and recommend a survey. He now has 12 dead or dying mature ash trees, that are no longer climbable.. but he wants us just to remove the dead branches on one and leave the stem (that will become dangerous) and leave him to saw up wood to save some money..

The bigger the house, the tighter the wallet.....was that Issac Newton:confused1:

I don't mind being told" it's too expensive, I can get it done cheaper," but find it really annoying to be told by someone sitting in a brand new Jag they can't afford it..
