Oxy petrol cutting

It’s just about the same density as air - almost identical to nitrogen, very slightly rarer than oxygen.

 

I’ve never filled a bag with acetylene to see if the density difference would be big enough to offset the weight of the bag; it certainly wouldn’t have the same lift as a helium balloon. I can imagine the bang being pretty spectacular though.

 

Our removals company wouldn’t even move camping gas or patio gas cylinders the 100 metres or so distance from one house to the other!! Decided to do the whole move ourselves instead, that will be something to look forward to... not.

Paddy, I saw that stunt done with a balloon, filled with the Oxy-Acety mix, and after carrying well away from the cylinders(or perhaps not😌) ignited, it was a most impressively hard sharp loud "BANG".

It certainly emphasised that Oxy-Actyl should be treated with respect.

Just found this on my google rampage... much rather have 25L of petrol that's for sure! 

 

Some say that roof is now in orbit and you can see it on a clear night 😂

Have you considered oxy-propane? Much safer than oxy-acetylene especially if you have to transport the bottles.

I have both propane and acetylene gear, grandson lives in the states works for the navy been telling me about oxy petrol, reckons it’s cheaper and better will cut through air gaps  and standard nozzle will do 100mm thick also easy to move just oxy bottle and gallon can of petrol seems to be used in Australia, China and USA

I’ll bet not one of you is insured for oxy acetylene.
I bought a setup in 2013.
No one would allow in their buildings!
Invalidates their insurance.
Couldn’t get insurance[emoji22]
Had to give it all back.

My hot works insurance cost me £450 per year no bottles in buildings other than own workshop, not more than one bottle of each gas on site, fire watch each time used, BOC training 1 day every three years. My policy has been running for 17 years and your are right if I change the insurance will be very difficult to get tried changing couple years back premiums were horrific nearly £2000 just for hot works, this includes angle grinders

Makes me wonder how our lot get on , we use shitloads of it,  scrap cutting rails . Moving it in vans and on track trolleys  . Hmmm . K
