Thé only other wood that matches the bark is walnut.

 

That bat hole or whatever doesn’t look like oak to me.

I'd be thinking Pop more than Willow, but by no means sure.

I was puzzling at a log the other day. Looks like willow on the outside but has medullary rays.

I agree about the bat hole.
Walnut has a whiteish hue to mature bark though.
I’ve seen sweet chestnut like that before.

SC that young is usually smooth barked, not teaching you to suck eggs though.

Had a stack of logs like that but with chocolate brown heart wood, thick layer of light sapwood.
I’d have put money on it being oak until I found several SC leaves still attached.
Seen so many variables in bark and grain over the years, especially when infected heartwood and sapwood maybe discoloured.
Could be willow,poplar,oak,SC...

Willow burns fine when seasoned . Burnt quit a bit early on this winter before it got really cold .
