Central pivot stump grinding

So, I used to have a Rayco RG25, and grinding was hard work. Looking at a new grinder with central pivot. Never used one before, but wondering just how much easier does it make it using a central pivot?

my Praxis grinder is old skool and u have to engage a handbrake on one of the wheels and manually sweep the machine from left to right,  it is hard work but it gets the job done. central pivot will be much better no doubt.

If you're talking Terrasaur type, while they're fantastic cutting tools, I've not had great success using one to lower stumps, as they tell you on the packaging. The theory is good, but in my experience, in practice not so good.

I've got a bandit hb20 which has a pivot and a smaller non pivoting machine and although the bandit is double the weight it is a whole lot easier.

I had a predator 450 and now have an FSI B22. The difference is night and day, and your body will thank you for it.

I am thinking of making this exact machine change - do you miss the extra power of the 450? Or just happy that it’s easier on the body!

Only time i notice the machine has less power is if your grinding fairly deep and end up with a lot of grinding around the wheel if slows the wheel. Just means you stop for 30 seconds and move the grindings and carry on. Would highly recommend the FSI.

I would say on smaller stumps the central pivot makes less difference. When you get a reasonable pile of grindings, or do something like a cherry where you had to chase out roots so you're working across a trench, then the central pivot is absolutely brilliant and massively reduces the physical effort of the job.

I've used a Predator 460 which had pivot and electric self drive, also a really good back saving feature. I've not used FSI but believe build quality is better, Predator have their fans though.
