Great result Lux! Fingers crossed for you now

Not a forst fan either, but Arb talk post or not I reckon they’d still have replaced the chipper.

take the old one, retrofit the newer modifications re-sell a few k cheaper as ex demo, and they’ll still be thousands in profit

Consumer law was always in Luxs favor, they know that, they’re not stupid

They need to look at what they are building and think is it going to put up with day in day out work. There cad and computer design team need to look at how stuff has been built in the passed and work well.

Years ago stuff was tested to destruction before going on the market dose this happen now or do they get Tree surgeon to try them and comment on them.

I know a lad how welded up chippers for a company well known by all of us on here and gave up working for them when they told him not to double weld weak points.

Well you could see from pics they had saved on the welding.  Like,  why the  hell would you ?  😳 K

After my dealings with a 56 plate Audi Q7, trading standards told me that if my consumer rights had been breached and the supplier was acting in a disrespectful manner or making demands that I felt were not fair or right then the I had the right to request a refund if I did not want to accept a replacement. In my case, finding that spec/colour/mileage Q7 was unlikely, they made no attempt to offer to fix the car in a satisfactory manner so they had to refund the money. They ignored the letters so I spoke to the bank. If the car was financed, or brought with a card then the bank would repay me the money and I had to get the goods back to them. It too some time and I did loose some money but I did get the purchase price back after some 9 months. They helped me write letters and talked me through the process from end to end. When I thanked them for their help, they said that a file was already open on that supplier due to previous complaints and that the file will always be there.

A comment from the Solicitor at the CAB was - 'Your rights as the consumer overcome their rights as the seller, they cannot stop you from talking about the deal, asking advice, or requesting your money back, if your rights have been breached then they then have to satisfy those rights in a fit and proper manner. You are not due any recompense for consequential losses or out of pocket expenses except through a civil procedure, the balance of which is different and with greater risk".
Obviously I agree good result.

I'm intrigued by this story, you bought the Audi as a personal consumer but the chipper was bought by the business so might be the case that consumer protection would not apply.

I know for example the cooling off period law doesn't apply if you agree stuff as a business, you can make a binding contract on the phone when people cold call. One reason I still get so many cold calls at work and very few now at home.

I had a very decent conversation with Forst regarding my machines faults.

Given the exceptionally low hours of the machine Forst are replacing the machine under warranty without reservation.
They came out and collected my machine, have provided a loan machine until my new one is built and I should get the new one around about the beginning of March.

I was delighted to see that a lot of the faults that have occurred with mine have already been redesigned and will be different on my replacement machine. ( mine was one of the first Doosan models on the market so had a few new features / designs)

The linkage to the stop bar is completely redesigned , new infeed roller blades , new exhaust which is down swept so no drilling required on the bonnet. Relays repositioned I think. They have certainly moved quickly to iron out early issues on the new Doosan TR8

I’m hugely impressed with the attitude and response from Forst. Without exception their customer service and speed at updating their machine has been second to none. Probably , no definitely , the best customer service I’ve experienced.

I’m looking forward to getting the new machine with its improvements.

Hi @lux,

Did everything go as planned with Först? How are you liking the 55hp TR8?

Hi Josh

Först were very decent in their handling of my issue. They took my TR8 55 back, gave me a loan TR8 45 old version for 3/4 months until my new machine was ready. Then delivered my new machine with the revisions on the teething issues.

They have made several revisions / improvements to the TR8 55 with a further torque enhancement too. It’s night and day even to the outgoing 45 hp kubota version. Blows it away on chipping performance. You can squeeze near on 9 inch timber through it no bother. So far the new machine is great.

You do need to keep an eye on the soot levels on the dpf if you are doing lots of stop start chipping for say 20mjns. It needs to be chipping for about 40 minutes to initiate a regen if needed. It’s designed to cope with forced regens but if the soot level exceeds 120 percent it requires resetting by laptop. That’s just modern engines I guess. Just means you need to keep a weekly check on soot levels on the display to avoid a call out for the laptop to be plugged in.

So far I’m happy. I’ll keep it for 3 years of warranty and flip it for a new one. Fantastic chipping performance but I want my warranty comfort blanket. That said if want that on any new chipper or machine that’s the core of my business.

True that. You either need to shell out for warranty (new machines) or redundancy (multiple machines), otherwise you are just on a hiding to nothing (or an early grave with the stress)

Nothing compares to knowing that you are paying wages for a gang who can't do any work that day.
