The trouble with get little cheap stuff to tide you over till you can afford the bigger stuff is that it holds you back without realising it.

 

Get yourself a good 30+ hp 6’’ minimum chipper, then you’re in business, otherwise you’re just a gardener.

Similar question in a way for me as not full time, I've gone for gravity fed chipper. Much cheaper to get a reliable machine, I just couldn't justify the money to buy and insure a big chipper and worried that if there's a repair bill on hydraulics, flywheel etc could be thousands.

Realistically for 90% of what I do, smaller trees, hedges etc M500 is absolutely fine and if I get a bigger job on then I hire in a TW230 for a day.

So I'd say no, don't buy a ragged old 150 but rather start with a CS100 or M500 if you can find one and then chop it in when you eventually go full time and the business warrants it.

Maybe depends when that will be I guess.

Gravity fed chippers are under rated, loved the old ArborEater  ?  k

They are good chippers, a firm I sub too have 2 of them, I’ve subbed to him for 10 years now. When I started the older 150 was reading 2800 hours and the clock hasn’t worked since I’ve known it! I’d say it’s on at least 4K hours now (probably more) and it still chips and does the job. A good advert for Timberwolf and I just hope the new ones are built aswell. There are better and faster  machines to buy nowadays but if your handy with spanner’s there’s nothing you can’t do on them yourself. Sounds like 6k probably a bit high on the price for that particular machine though
