You will get what's called a false rut, it's like a second go at breeding. Usually when  the weather gets milder. Happens with Sika so I assume that Fallow will as well.

Thanks I thought it was to do with the mild weather . Usually in the spring its the increasing light  levels hitting their retina that triggers it .

I heard a grunting over the weekend.  I went out with a big torch and straight away a set of eyes and antlers in my garden.  It trotted off into the forest after about 40s.
