Would it be possible/easier to raise the log somehow?

 

I've tried a similar setup but on a much smaller scale for milling a few alder logs I can managed to lift. I've just used old fence posts for the frame and after the top cut I use 4x2s to lift the log up 2".

These lumps of Burr Oak, are the remains of the big Burr Oak i felled 5 years ago, some of you may recall the original post!

I managed to extract them today as the terrain was dry enough, and I cant wait to see the boards they will yield!!

Oh and I'd totally forgotten about the 5" quater sawn beams i left behind as I couldn't move them at the time. Just make them out at the back ?
