Hi guys so I look after a small Estate a couple of days a week and we just got a brand new husky 445 and the bloody chain keeps coming off any ideas what's causing this issue looked at all the obvious

Thanks Mark

Sounds like its the wrong chain for the saw mark.Run the chain arround the nose of the bar and the sprocket and see if the teeth fit correctly.

Could be that the new chain (assume was new too) stretched on first use, became slack then pinged off.  Probably damaged a few drive links so that they don't sit properly in the guide bar anymore and the chain is riding higher at certain points - hence coming off again.  Just a guess because you said it was new - but it could be other things.

Is this on the first outing? No one has bent the bar on a previous outing have they?

Other than that, make sure the chain, bar and sprocket match - gauge, pitch and drive links.

Make sure that when you tighten the chain and do up the bar nut that the end of the bar is pushed upwards or you are griping the top of the chain and pulling upwards so the bar is pre-tensioned - amazed how many aren't aware of this simple technique and their chains keep going slack!

What are you cutting? Any sort of small hedge trimming type work would throw the chains off our 135 and the battery saw i borrowed while trying to reduce a beech hedge. Found that it was better to butcher it back with the hedge trimmer and only use the saw when there was 1" bits I could whip off.

We used to have the chain flying off the Kombi pole saw regularly when trimming hedges like this, particularly thorn hedges.

Since swapping bar and chain to a longer one for a Stihl 023, the problem has all but disappeared.

Hi guys thanks for your thoughts and have noticed a very small bend in the bar ,this saw is brand new I doubt it has 10 hrs work on yet I have delt with 2 small wind blown ash trees and a sapling and an hour or so logging up fire wood do you think the bend in the bar could be from new as its been throwing chains ever since we had it

Thanks Mark
