This has cropped up on here before, I always wonder…

 

The 2021 threshold is £85000, allow for 4 weeks holiday a year and that’s £354 per working day. This means that there are three ways to stay under the vat threshold.

1. You work part time. Fair enough, I know a few people who do this.

2. You work for less than £350 per day, if you’re a subby climber fair enough, if your a contractor then you’re an idiot to work this cheap.

3. You do a lot of cash jobs and only put half your turnover through the books…

I still don’t see how any serious contractor can not be vat reg.

Which is why when faced with a quote for £1000 (no VAT), £1100 (with VAT) and £1200 (with VAT),  they will go with the no VAT company.

And yet plenty of vat registered companies still manage to carry out domestic work

Absolutely Steve, price definitely isn’t the overriding factor for the more desirable customers.

 

I was just pointing out that I don’t think it’s true that everyone wins with the VAT game.

Blimey, I add a bit of detail to make a point and look what happens. 

 

Just to keep you in the picture, no, I don't take 10's of thousands of VAT per quarter, but do per year. Sorry for not making that as clear as you'd like. 

 

I've explained what I do on this forum before, it probably wouldn't be difficult to find.
