Correct to a point i suppose but its an apple device and price wise you will not get one of those for £400-500 hence traditional  laptop i think he is meaning

You're right, it is a bit outside the spec in my original post,  but if someone is keen to make a case for a more expensive Apple, I'm happy to listen?if it doesn't help me, it may help someone else ?

Fast boot up times means SSD (solid state hard disk) and is the way to go, I upgraded mine and OMG, as fast as I can sit down, put my password in and go on the internet, the thing is already there. Quad core CPU is good although not sure what the latest incarnation is. I have been using an old Fujitsu 7-8 yrs and it has lasted well albeit upgraded memory and SSD, Lenovos are also good.

If you are just surfing and doing a bit of paperwork then you don't need a real high spec - Games are the big user of power and if you are not a big gamer then you don't really need a high end lappy.

I would look for the best CPU, memory can always be updated at a later date if necessary.

If you do a lot of office work and like the Microsoft experience then go that route, there are other machines running Android and the like available.

Try to match the machine to your needs rather than spending ££££££ on things you will never use.

Got it in one spud :congrats:Start pissing about with other operating systems that ones not used to.

Something simple, I mainly do very simple word documents, emails, online forms, transferring photos to memory sticks.

Im certainly not a gamer?

Mate of mine has a Lenovo SSD for programming generators,  tiny little notebook not a laptop,  but hes got a dual screen PC setup for office work, which is what I really want,  but nowhere to use it? I'll ask home what model hes got, see if it 'translates' into a proper laptop model

I use ACER laptops, pretty simple and good runners. Bought one for about £200 about 5 years ago was the last one. Still have the one before that which works perfect apart from the battery needs replacing.

But with ACER there is no need to have a crank handle as they start by just pushing the on button. Works real good. www.ebuyer.com seem to supply good quality stuff. Have bought from them since about 1998.

I have to put mine on standby to warm up the valves the we are good to go ?

To be fair, my current netbook did come back to life for 6 months or so after I turned it on, with a Wifi connection,  and left it to it's own devices for a couple of hours ??
