Big (but not MASSIVE) chippers

 A bandit is the most suitable replacement imo. I was working for an LA a few years ago that moved up from a 250 to a 12” bandit. The increase in productivity was impressive & I believe that they have had very little down time over the years too.

Ours is looking a bit knocked about now but does everything, can hand feed, digger feed, is great for big take downs and thorny material would't be without it. 

Its looking a bit rough now and was planning to trade in but can't be bothered with add blue and funky engines so  I plan on stripping her down soon and tarting up and sure she will look like new.

It is deffo top of the pile.. But interested in alternatives. The Bandits are just bigger and less compact and as said we have had issues with the cost of parts with Bandit and Vermeer..

When you look at the volume of material going through,the abuse they take and still work and the size of the throat to take material without having to trim,they are heavy enough not to shake themselves to bits and they last. I believe parts although not cheap work out as value for money. You also have a machine that is slow to depreciate.

I would throw Forst in as an alternative. They are incredibly capable - ST8 if you're wanting tow-behind. 

If you're buying new, they're amazing in terms of warranty and support. They also hold residual value unlike any other.

That they definitely, definitely do not. Try getting someone to underwrite a Forst apart from Forst themselves who strip them down and completely rebuild them. (As per their own latest YouTube used machinery video) 

 

Getting a TimberWolf, Jensen, GreenMech, TP, Vermeer etc underwritten is a piece of piss.

Fair enough, I do only really deal with Forst dealers so that will skew my perception of it, however what you mention about trading in a Forst with a Forst dealer, the same could be said about almost every other brand. You will get stronger money on a TW from a TW dealer, Jensen from a Jensen dealer....

 

Especially TP actually...not sure I know anyone who would take back one of them.

I'd still consider that in the small chipper catagory, 

We run a TW230+190 and they are still the bread and butter chipper for us but not big as per the OP's post.
