Easy cheap climbers secateurs

Over the years I have gone through a lot of pairs of secateurs, its hard to find pairs that work well, have a good locking mechanism, can carry in your pocket easy, lightweight, can be clipped into a harness and that dont cost to much. I have modified all sorts of pairs but recently found a pair that  fit the bill

 

I brought a set of bahco pg12's for 20 bucks and an R clip for another dollar. Bent and cut the R clip a bit and drilled a hole in the handle, inserted the clip and taped it in place. 8 months of use later they have held out well. (and I have killed 100 dollar pairs in months)  And they are not hard to find with there colour either should you drop em.

Felco are not cheap but are some of the best imo if you want good you have to pay a bit,around £40

I bought my wifes felcos from a car boot sale. Some guy had about 50 pairs in a box. Quid each.

Cheapest place I found Felcos was Amazon and haven't managed to wear them out.

Bahco do make some good kit though, maybe worth a try.

The felcos I use most were bought in the 70's, swivel handles are well worn. Would not really bother with any other makes, yes you can break the blades if you get greedy with them, but they are a consumable

If you''re doing any amount of work with them then you can't beat the felco with the swivelling handle, they are worth the money. I've had several different types in the past though, some of the best being Corona.

do you hang yours on your harness? Id love to see how others do theres. I have tried a half dozen methods with at least a dozen different models.

Can always drill a hole in the handle and put a key ring ring through it and tie a tether to it. I just keep mine in pocket or stuffed down T shirt etc, not best practice, just don't  fall with it there.

Buy a small extending dog lead and attach a carabiner to the handle and felcros to the lead, job done.

Felco with holster on harness. 

Felco will refurbish old ones if you wear them out.
