Me too!

I would like to add a lot more to this thread but not at this time of night.

It is a huge step back for the industry to say the least.

As a supplier and hopefully someone with more knowledge of the systems available across the irata stuff too maybe you can suggest things.????

I will continue to climb the trees as I see fit, not as you see fit. They are our trees to climb and bodies to climb with, not the governments or a regulatory body’s.

We’ve done this for time immemorial and inevitably some fall...

Climb and cut to the best of your ability and respect people, property and nature. Let’s not let them control one of the best jobs going, ever! Happy and safe climbing to you all.

Can anyone remember the last time someone failed an aerial arb training course I have not seen it happen I think that it is the basis of the problem anyone can pass the course even if they don’t have the skills required perhaps HSE should be looking at training rather than working practises to quote their mantra training reduces accidents. Not changing systems of working that have been used for approaching half a century in some form or other

personally I would like to see colleges responsible for students after they have completed the course perhaps then they would not be in such a rush to pass every student capable or not

I drink with a climbing assessor quite a bit and he regularly fails guys so I don’t know how you have come to this conclusion.

The way I see it is different, the training/techniques that are in the industry now are far more advanced than when I started 25+ years ago.

The problem is with the candidates doing their training, too many Instagram/Facebook, Go Pro, drone camera hero’s, obsessed with ‘likes’ and ‘selfies’ in the tree instead of working.
No interest in trees, no knowledge of trees and how timber strength changes from species to species, and you can’t make a good arborist in a 5 day course.

There is nothing that I see that is wrong with the way that we are already climbing, it is poor practice of these techniques that is causing these accidents, a decent climber will work two ropes without too much drama, a poor one won’t and will still have accidents using it.
