Hello,

I know lots of people have imported US pickups and get them registered >3500kg category by downplating but I'm interested in whether anyone has kept them 'full fat' and kept their full payload and towing capacities? A dodge Ram with a goose neck 5th wheel set up is the aim. 

 

C1+E, O license, regular checks are all fine.

All the yank truck manufacturers compete in the same class categories, my old chev V8 diesel could legally carry about a ton and tow six, flick through the link to see typical yank load/towing capacities.

Getting a plating certificates for both the pickup and trailer would be one of the main problem, at a guess. While not impossible (I would of thought), it would be a lot a hassle with no uk dealers to help with type approval numbers, facts and figures, and so on.

doesnt help but i saw a us video or a ram towing a massive trailer with about 4 or 5 cars on it, never allowed here but over there seems to be fine.

It was a dually one ( double rear axle).

so got all the grunt thats for sure

We have a Ford E350 Superduty with the 6.0L powerstroke engine. Can carry close to 1500 kgs, and 4400 kg on the hook. Pretty much every US truck and van has built in electronic brake controller or wiring harness for it.

Thanks for the replies. It's something I have been mulling over. I looked at mini artics (Iveco 50c SWB with a gooseneck trailer for example which could tow a plant trailer with a payload of about 5,500kg). Site to site I'm all normal roads but I operate in parks, nature reserves, open spaces and getting that last few kilometres across a damp field (not serious mud plugging) would be ideal. Have my vehicle, kit, etc near me is a serious advantage. I though a Ram 2500 or F250 on mud terrains might work.
