Where are they draining it to, (I spent quite a bit of time around there when I had a narrowboat) is it going into the peak forest canal, or maybe the river Goyt?

A canoeist popped up on facebook earlier saying the Goyt may well run as they fix it. He sounded local.

So iffen this reservoir was created to supply the canal, it got nowt to do with farming practices this last couple o hundred o years or so then Kevin.

cough cough.

Conversely, I’d suggest, and taking full account of the elephant ? in the corner there, it'd be a touch bold to propose that landscape usage over the preceding couple o hundred years has had absolutely no influence what so ever upon the current perilous state of affairs.... ?

Hedges and banks removed for the advantage of intensive agri industry, trees clear felled, vast swathes of ‘efficient’ mono crops - all gleefully delivered by government subsidy and hard done by farmers claiming to be the poor down trodden guardians of the countryside.

Behold the the fruits of your labours and hear my scorn as you plead poverty and continue to rape and desecrate the very source of your livelihood.

This is what happens when I have to nip off for a few hours and leave him unattended.

The reservoir was already at capacity, that area of Derbyshire has seen rainfall like never before over the last couple of days, something had to give. What I don't understand, and can't find any mention of is why "they" didn't start draining the res before the breach.

they have been draining it but its filling up faster than the drain can empty it due to the amount of rain they have had and still raining or it was about 1800 hrs

Yes, I understand they are draining the reservoir, were they draining it before the overflow failed and it went out of consent?

yes before it overflowed but obviously with hindsight not soon enough  but in any case it should not have washed part of the slipway out might be lack of maintenance
