Cheers mate. Wow, that's more than I suspected.

Aside from safety of tyre puncture, probably more stability, what's the advantage of a tri axle? I'm assuming you'd lose 100- 150kg for another axle??

Can be easier to load/balance to get the nose weight right, theoretically more stable on road, the tyres aren’t working as near to their rated capacities so less likely to puncture, a single puncture is less likely to have detrimental effects on stability, they impress less load onto the tow vehicle (which can make them harder to drag across a field), the load is spread over a greater contact area so they sink in less off road and brake better in slippery conditions, harder to manoeuvre due to tyre scrubbing. Pros and cons for twin and tri axle - if you are going to be running fully loaded a lot a tri axle is definitely worth considering imo.

Great info thanks.

If you're at the stage where you're leaving guys on site, I'd be looking to get a cheap tipper truck. My 2003 LDV was £2300 with 20,000 miles on it- yes, it looks pikey but the micro digger it transports is brand new... you couldn't get a decent trailer for less than that, and it's much more versatile than a trailer.

Good point, handy truck for the money but a truck will never have the payload of a trailer. Still very useful though.

I've had tipper, flat bed and plant trailers and the one I wouldn't be without is the 14x6 flatbed. Can do more things more easily than anything else. Its not ridiculously big, especially when used with my 110/ td5 discovery, but its long enough to get 2 pallets of 6ft fencing on, can safely put 6m long stuff on it, cars, timber, soil, whatever. I have the standard sides and plywood high sides. I could get mesh high sides if I wanted.

Yeah it crossed my mind but it's not just purchase, it's tax, insurance, service MOT etc.

Another thing that crossed my mind was selling my Wildtrak and getting a decent tipper van that looks respectable and also get another trailer. Just mean me and the Mrs would have to go into town in tipper van. I'm not snob but I love my ranger.

That's it, I got Cargo Connect Compact - not as wide, only 2.7t, bit cheaper. 10inch wheel means bed height only 550mm.

Yeah it's ridiculously expensive. Like 6k inc VAT with all the cage and gubbins. Rear ramp alone is 500 not inc VAT...
