Question

Posted

Hi,

Got a job on three trees where a couple of telephone lines are impeding the work required to reduce the trees.

Anyone got any ideas on what I can do with the lines?  Spoke to Openreach and they say I most likely need a survey as well as the charge to take down the line then replace which seem really expensive.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be most appreciated.

Are the lines connected to the property(s) you are working at?, if so disconnect them at the house, take a photo of the wiring so you know how they go back.

Hi eggsarascal,

Lines going from one pole to another....rather than to a property....

Woody Paul, if there were ten lines I'd have declined the job

Ok, I think you are going to have to work around them or get Openreach in if you can't establish where they are going.

Contacting Open reach is a nightmare. In my experience you can't do it unless it is your line and then you have to do it via your provider.. As I had to explain to an irate neighbour last week when one of our teams snapped a line...

But be quick, they get a bit peeved if they catch you :D

Thanks eggsarascal

Thought it was worth an ask....

Not so sure about newer lines, but it used to be that there's only a couple of wires that actually connect within the house junction box. These sometimes connect with a little gel filled crimp type connector (which are also dead handy to mend a broken line temporarily). Or so I'm told :$
