Bit quiet this year

As we get more environmentally friendly and the price of fossil fuels become harder to produce more and people will turn to a more sustainable source of energy.

Well I hope so 'cos my woodland management plan involves growing Ash coppice instead of conifer plantation. Ash grows really well there.

Absolutely! Let's face it, timber is the only readily available sustainable fuel around ( as we all know wood grows from the power of sun light so is actually the original solar-powered fuel!)

So many people are installing log-burners at huge costs and don't seem to mind paying for the fuel to go in them

I've dropped a load of firewood off to a different customer everyday after work now for 2 weeks so I'm happy with how its going. As I'm busy with the farm anyway, quite happy with how busy it is. Getting orders for more most days :) :) :)

You spent quite abit on advertising or is it all word of mouth mate??

Sounds like its going well!! :thumbup1:

Almost ALL fuel has been produced by the sun.

I had some decent flyers made up during the summer for my farm/equine business and couple of weeks ago my graphic designer friend used same template to produce a Firewood one along the same lines. It cost me a bulk bag of wood for the art work so no big cost. I've only put a few flyers in village shops etc but they look so much better then the crap hand writen ones. Probably spent 50 quid in total.

Probably delivered to 20+ customers and I'd say third are friends, third from word of mouth and third through the adverts. Not bad from only 4 weeks of doing firewood really.

All right then - hands up everyone who's selling 3 month split logs as 'dry'?:001_rolleyes:

You may get away with ash - but oak, beech, sycamore, hawthorn...?

i think it should've read.... a minimum of 3 months

4 seasons to a year

3 months to a season

3 months in a good summer = dry wood, especially ash sycamore, hawthorn, lime, alder, beech, larch..................but not oak, or poplar.

and yes i have dried it in 3 months and yes it was moisture tested to see if it works and they were cut in half

you need a lot or space, air flow and sun/heat to work, but will not work if all in one big pile

Yep, I'll agree, 3 months is doable - just not all the time. Managed it one year - see pic - got the sun nearly all day where it was and it was a rare occurence we had a dry summer! also the wind would howl up the valley bottom too

Also - I think the public need to understand the difference between dry and seasoned too.
