My mate was arrested to day .

In short my mate has a few acres of land on an old nursery that he has converted to a dog training facility , dog swimming , dog agility etc etc you know the kinda thing .  He is walking the fields he owns with his air rifle ( a .177 I think , non FAC )  . Rabbit  control . All of a sudden 3 X long dogs come barreling past chasing deer . They go through the hedge onto his neighbors land and shortly return to his . There is NO foot path any where on this land . A woman appears and clearly they are her dogs . He asks her to get her dogs under control and then leave his property .  10 mins later an armed response unit turns up , blue lights everywhere . He is arrested and held in the custody suit of Chichester police station . So far with out charge .  I would guess that she has accused him of threatening to shoot the dogs or worse   but I know him and that is not his thing . He loves dogs . Its his lively hood after all . What do you guys think ?

If an accusation has been made it’s entirely reasonable that he’s been interviewed to get to the truth.

 

If the story is as you say there won’t be an issue.

Would assume the truth will come out in the end, they’ll do the necessary checks on your mate and find he’s legit.
Crap side to it is that the woman has done a shitty trick phoning in a “haux call” if ya will, to get herself out of trouble. If justice is to prevail then they’ll do her for trespass and wasting police time.

Awfully easy for someone with a grudge to make up porkies when the other parties holding a gun.
Hopefully your mate didn’t say or action anything to do with the air rifle.
The cops love a chance nowadays to practice at armed response.
If he’s a member of Countrside Alliance etc he probably pays insurance that could cover the cost of a brief. Even though I’m retired from being a fishing ghillie I still pay my membership into Scottish Gamekeepers for that very reason.

Hopefully Mick .  Thing is its one " word " against another . He had the pea shooter so they godda respond . He was going about his legitimate business on his own land .

The woman was probably some nobby type that didn't like being told what to do although she was trespassing as were her dogs and your mate had a legitimate gun and right to be on his own property. I would guess no one who has any interest in dogs would shoot one with an air rifle anyway as it would be almost impossible to do anything apart from wound it and it is always the owners who are the real issue!

Hope the police get to the truth and she gets nicked assuming the version we got was factual....not doubting you Andy but you know how these stories can get embellished!

Thanks Steve . Yep Absolutely . He would have to be severely savaged before he would pull the trigger on a dog . He loves them all to bits .

Well, the fact he does dog training and agility would back up that he loves and understands dogs, and would be very unlikely to use an air rifle on one.
BTW we need licences in Scotland for ANY air rifle, and the fact you may have shotgun and FAC is irrelevant. Bloody SNP
