I see your point about the stability issues. I may yet add legs. 

Apparently you get used to the sway! 

A know a few folk who swear by them and would not use anything else, I’ve been told if the wheels are on the widest setting and Ballested they are fine.. just felt odd to me as I’m used to the rigidity of legs on the trailer crane.

Yeah, the short while I spent using the crane, the sway was noticed and it's not that pleasant. I might speak to JAS P Wilsons about what they'd recommend regarding legs. Should be fine without in fairness.

I remember the first full day I spent in a roof mount. When I got home and was stood in the kitchen everything was swaying!
You get used to it. I wouldn’t bother messing about with legs, you develop methods of dragging the wood along the ground if it starts to tip you badly.
Have had a few moments though. You will find it invaluable as a versatile tool.

well worth getting remote control and unspool device on winch.

I’ve seen that tractor lift some huge bits of wood at full reach and not budge, you’ll be fine!

we run a valtra A93 with crane and trailer so slightly different but one thing that really settled tractor down in use was rear wheel weights. 180kg per side.

 

its a loader tractor with large bucket and gets used well, wouldnt be without wheel weights for sure.

Are you going to do much road work with it? You could ballast the wheels with water too.

It has rear wheel weights, but I'm not sure whether the tyres are ballasted.

I know diddly squat about roof mounts on tractors but cant you add a frame that you fix to the 3 point linkage and push it down when using the crane? Presumably, the winch blade would do the same job when you don't have a trailer on the back.
