Hardest Wood to Split

The wood they make the pilings that form the groins ( break waters ) on the beaches . Can't

remember what it is though . Possibly " Green Heart " ?

I didn't realise till recently that Eucalyptus is used for a lot of railway sleepers.  I always assumed(wrongly) it was oak.

Yep, green heart and a few other tropical types on Brighton beach.
Can't remember the name but there's a purple one too.
All carcinogenic, so careful cutting or sanding.

Some are so knarely they just blunt chains on the spot .

The purple one is called Purpleheart.

Some are so knarely they just blunt chains on the spot .

If they've come from a beach then it'll probably be the embedded sand grains doing the blunting as much as the wood.

Greenheart is also denser than water, ie doesn't float. That's quite interesting to see.

No sand just dirty pebbles.
