Also consider a polycarbanate riot shield, a riot helmet and a stab vest, and drill putting them on quickly. That and some sort of impact weapon will probably be your best bet. Set up a heavy bag and practice whacking it with simple gross motor arm movements, nothing fancy. You need to develop your body and mind to the point where you can dish out a rapid and relentless whacking without getting fatigued. Involve breathing and  footwork. People revert to training under stress..

laws that prohibit you from reactionary protection of property with absolutely anything other than hand to hand combat.

"Reasonable force" doesn't necessarily mean just with fists. For example...if an attacker came at you with a knife, it may be deemed reasonable to clout him round the head with a cricket bat

Look, I just had a chip box and winch fitted to my trailer. £1200. So trailer alone is £6200.00 to replace. Cut open my van and you can theoretically get 15k worth of tools, not including 8k chipper for me to replace new. Unload and load time is 1 hour ish for 2 people. Not possible to unload and I feel safer with the stuff parked under my bedroom window than in a container.

Maybe the best way to deter thieves is not to post on a public forum how you keep all your expensive kit in your van outside your house overnight, when anyone can find your name, company and home address without much difficulty.

I think the legal phrase is something like  "A person of sound mind has to be reasonably sure that he is in imminent danger of being seriously hurt or killed, or his immediate family and he can then use proportional force to prevent the attack.

If the assailant had a gun and you managed to knock it out of his hand and pick it up and he still came at you then it would be reasonable to shoot him in the eyes of the law.  Not if he was running away though

I cannot seem to rid my mind of the image of Forestboy definitely doing something dodgy by shooting at an assailant's knees while eating a banana.  Would  it be impossible for the judge to find him guilty?
