Hi All,

I have had a refusal back from a local council tree officer. The reason stated was rather than me stating that I intended to reduce the trees canopy by 20% (which I have always used successfully in the past), I now need to express my intentions in metres. Whilst i feel this is a bit petty obviously I will resubmit as advised. Can I ask if you all use metres and also for those converts amongst you whats 20% = what in metres!!

No dramas.

I put on average 5ish applications in each month I would say give or take and over a fair few different  councils but this is a first for me. Also I conduct work to others spec which also has been in %.  Always learning!

What they should be asking for is the height/radial crown spread 'after reduction. The purpose being that this measurable 'after' the fact. I'd expect a refusal to validate if a %age reduction or 'x metre reduction was provided.

It does not need to be validated if it is just in a conservation area?  It is a notification... You don't need permission...

Unless it is TPO'd..

I know that you don't need permission, etc, etc ,etc. But if you don't provide the necessary information for the LA to judge the notification, they have two choices; ask you to renotify with the correct information (normally under the threat of a TPO if you don't)  or to TPO it.

Acknowledging that 'validate' is the incorrect terminology
