I can't understand it. Some firms won't pay more than 80 or 90 quid a day for a climber up here. 12 years ago I was on that as a groundie with no kit and just a saw ticket.

Hang on in there ( exactly what area are you in? ). Sure good firms are out there and you'll find them eventually.

Frustrating how times haven't moved on.  Wages in this industry haven't really changed in 20 years.  Why so many people flock to be a part of it still is beyond me

Because when it's good. It's brilliant. On a big rigging job with a group of good lads having a laugh, where you don't have to shout and scream, stuff just gets done. It's the best.

That's exactly my view. I don't want to set up. I want to help build things. I worked for some great firms in the past, moved from New Forest area, with good contacts, and average wages but had good quality work, and great craic with the lads/lasses I worked with. Then moved to the North-west and struggling to find really good quality work. Let alone many people who will give me the time of day to give me a trial. I'm a humble lad, I just want to get on an work. Do a good job. Have fun and have a good time.

You will struggle to find good quality work on the north west, there are very few firm interested in doing things right, there exceptions of course.

We’re about a are you?

The north is poor.
Wages are shit.
Been offered £50-£80 a day subbing. [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]
That's why I travelled 600+miles a week to earn a decent wage.
Started with local council two weeks ago ,highly trained and experienced guys on £23k gross. That's it.
Down south you'd be asking £30-£40k.
I'll be moving back south in a year or two.

The north is poor, that's why I moved away, amongst other things, that said, I was out with a lad off here a couple of weeks ago who's doing quite a bit of work in the north-west, he seems to be getting good money up there.

Yeah I've met guys who pay £fa a day in London [emoji23]
And I've met climbers who are good and feel lucky to get £130 a day with tools and tipper.

Basically there's more millionaires with big gardens down south.
