Looking at getting a small saw, was thinking either makita ea4300 or echo cs390esx. Anyone used either or had a chance to run both side by side? Makita has 1/2hp more than the echo, but carries a little more weight, 4.9kg compared to 4.5kg.

How ya Jimmer,  It'd be the Echo fir me as i have a few now.

Not used that 390 but have the 4300. It's sturdy and pretty zippy, slightly chunky and heavy for its omph.

I'd certainly be keen on trying the 390 if it's anyhting like the 360tes.

Doesn't feel like slot of weight difference between the 43 and 50cc Makita so personally would prob go for the 5000 over the 4300 as have a bit more oomph

Hi Ken, hope all is good with you. I had noticed over time you were going the echo way. Think I might go with the 390 as I already have the ea5000.

Now to find the best price.

Ring Radmore n' Tucker as they may have some stock left over after they fell out with the area rep for Echo/Ariens and gave up selling Echo kit.   There will be a new Echo dealer near Tiverton in sept.

I bought a new cs390 in Sept last year.  I needed a new saw for hedgelaying.  It's now done eight months of work inc a fair bit of small felling.  A special offer price of £400 tempted me away from Stihl ...and I've had forty years of pro use with them!

Cracking saw straight from the box and even more so now it's had time to loosen up.  I've also removed the spark arrestor and restrictor from the exhaust.  It really flies with a Speedcut chain fitted.
