i can see it working maybe if you got a larger trailer to be honest? with the tracked chipper so you can carry abit of chip and the chipper, however didnt think you were getting a chipper anytime soon?

Probably wont be mate but I'm weighing up all options now in case. I mean it's  fact I'll be doing this course within a year and be doing tree work within a year so I'm planning ahead.

Larger trailer though? It's 10 1/2ft x 6 1/2ft. Any bigger and it'd have decreased payload. Would only just take the weight of a 2 ton chipper without chip legally if it were any bigger.

Finding this really damn difficult I must say. I was expecting to be more natural at it.

Doing chainsaw maintenance, cross cut and small fell. Testing tomorrow. Passed chainsaw maintenance easily and I'm sure cross cutting I will pass to but I have such a crap memory. Remembering all the techniques for hung up trees and the different cuts for different diameters and stuff is quite difficult to remember when you haven't seen them lots.

Not helped by the fact I'm driving a lot and had 3 crap nights sleep out of 4 so far I'm sure but yeah hmmm.

I might be over thinking but well, I'm certainly not so confident and am actually quite awed about just how much there is involved with tree work....

You'll be fine mate.  From past experience the instructors work hard to draw the knowledge out of you if its in there.  I'm the same when put in those situations, my mind just goes blank and I can't remember anything.

Thanks for the follow up, and good luck

Thanks Steve,

Just need a good uninterrupted nights sleep...

Don't worry mate, if you already know how to use a saw safely, it's a few days in the woods.
Back cut for "standard upright"
Bore cut with dog tooth for "leaners"
Back cut with wedges for "back leaners"
Hung up trees is an oddball, just remember the tree will generally roll towards the solid hinge, so cut on the opposite side you want it to go.
Really hung up, sever the base onto the ground. Lever or drag if small or get the tirfor winch for larger.
ALWAYS keep your visor down when cutting, keep chain brake on at all times, except during the cut. And keep your thumb wrapped on the top handle at ALL times.

And I understand about several crap nights sleep and still having to slog it.

Have confidence in yourself mate.
Go slow and safe.

Looking forward to hearing you've passed.
