What should a subby groundy bring to the party[emoji848]?

Interested to get some feedback on this question!

 

A good friend of mine who does subby groundy work was accused of not bringing much to the party ie ground saws ect, so I put it to you all, what should a subby groundy be expected to bring to the worksite??

Personally if he turns up with all the correct ppe and a good attitude that's enough, I don't think he should be expected to turn up with his own ground saw/fuel ect on someone else's job, discuss!!

Suppose it depends on the individual and what he/she ispaid.

A few negatives he/she could bring:-

- Bad attitude

- Poor work ethic

- No experience

 

A few positives:-

- Great attitude

- Gumption to do and not wait to be told what to do

- Experience on the ground, saw, and running ropes

- Area Rescue

 

Kit ie saw not essential but a plus. 

 

Personally I like to use my own kit whether climbing or on the ground but my price reflects that when I sub out.

Any stubby working for me is expected to bring his ppe in good clean condition, food and water for day and a good attitude and that's it, my job my gear.
Climber is different as I'd expect them to use own climbing gear but toppers and rigging is again my stuff

Groundsman: All of the above concerning attitude and ability, along with PPE.. Maybe if he/she was coming in for a site clearance and their task was as a feller (specifically) then possibly a saw depending on the circumstances - but no big deal if they didn't want to or have one. (saw provision paid extra, but wouldn't expect them to bring fuel)

When I sub out it's usually pick up, trailer, all saws required ms150 to 880, rigging kit, climbing kit, rescue kit and all ppe.

You guys mention price reflecting if you bring a saw or not, how much on average (bracket if you want to) would you put on top of your rate for providing a saw (not including the fuel it'll use)

I charge the same rate whether I’m on the floor or climbing when I sub out it is up to the few I sub too to use me how they see fit. Personally I bring my own kit and fuel as I know my kit and fuel mix etc. As for using other people’s toppers well that’s not for me but it’s each to their own I sharpen my saws the way I like them to run for me I have upmost confidence in my kit so it’s my kit I use. 

 

Arb work is straightforward in that everybody knows the end goal on each job before a saw is started so as long as you have a good work ethic are fit, pro active and good to get along with you’ll do ok and most importantly everyday is a school day, always be open to learning something new or achieving a task in a new/different manner. 

 

I charge the same same on the basis that if I’m on the floor because that’s where you need me I’m not wasting a day earning less than I could climbing but also I’m of the attitude that everyone is equal climbers are not better than groundies and visa versa the team’s efficiency depends on everyone performing together and being proactive rather than being reactive and waiting for instruction.

I use my own saws and fuel as you know they work and the mix is good.

Also helps when you know what the job is that your going to.
