I have made a couple in the past and filled the head with lead shot to add weight, you could always teach the good lady to dispatch by hand, the girls on our shoot were pretty good and humane at it.

Been poking in the shed last night and found some old twisted chestnut stems i had saved from a while back, and have played around with them today. Firstly for myself to see if they look any good will then do one for the good lady.

I think any item of sufficient solidness twatted on the head will be enough to dispatch the quarry.

Have now made a brace and have four coats of spray lacquer, and the leather arrived for the handles. Pretty pleased with the results. Awaiting a field trip!
