Nope, the root planer does not impress, handy for awkward stuff, but won’t go on my wish list.

The main advantage is that the planer head is 1 (relatively cheap) of several other 'bolt on' implements for the rotator head.  I have a Carlton 900 and this arrangement for the MultiOne, of the 2 available options, the planer was by far the better user option for that job.  I don't do enough to warrant owning a big stumper and I don't know what they run to to hire but for the occasional up-sell / follow on job, it's just the ticket!  A monkey for a day sitting on my ass - I'll take that medicine ?

What ever happened to Stephan?

I wonder if he spontaneously combusted in a cloud of enthusiasm or folded under the self imposed herculean work load...?

Good evening. I've recently got an Avant 528 and am keen to put a skidding type winch on it. Im not sure about the Avant one as it doesn't look like it has a butt plate. Has anyone got anything different  or should I look at fabricating something? Guess I could look at landrover/husky type or was thinking hydraulic capstan as I'm mainly going to be on small stuff and have done loads with our portawinch

Cheers

I’m no engineer, but I’m guessing you mean to mount a winch on the attachment mounting plate?

Where I’ve thought about bollards mounted on the front plate I’ve thought better of it due to the potential pull effect on the extendable jib and also worried about cross loading dynamic forces - neither of which (I would imagine) would have been in design spec.

In a nutshell, are the extendable jib arms suitable to resist direct forward pull or cross loaded dynamic force?

I never got past thinking - probably not.
