"A DEAD tree, believed to have been declared safe by Basildon Council just weeks ago, has come crashing down...writing off one car and badly damaging another.

Half of the tree, in Renacres, Basildon, had already fallen, but the rest had been declared safe by tree surgeon acting on behalf of the council. "

Hmmm, don't always believe what you read in the press...what's the old adage about not letting the truth get in the way of a good story :sneaky2:

Of course it might be accurate.

Funny looking "dead" tree, what with all them leaves:001_rolleyes:

That was my first thought.

Aaron Stamp, 24, was one of the unlucky motorists. He had parked his BMW under the tree while visiting his girlfriend, Hannah Stebbings, 23

They don't give the genus of tree or it's age though like, the oak, 85, suffered unexplained damage and could have fallen on a child or a person (what's the difference ?)

These things do happen for no apparent reason, there are some healthy Plane trees on High street here and a couple of weeks ago the top 10 feet of one in the middle of the clump snapped off during the night bringing down branches on a couple of the others.
