My first 4wd back in the late 90s was a Terrano, fell apart like a circus clown's car.

Don't confuse them with the robustness of a pick up, other people seem to have better experiences though, which is fair enough.

Was just thinking that for my budget I wouldn't be able to get a half decent pick up.

I had a freelander for quite a few years.

I was once up in Richmond with Dave the dog. We were rec climbing and had to make it up a step hill to trees overlooking the castle. There was melting snow on the ground and the freelander made it up on road tyres using the HDC. Dave had his 130 in low box.

I never had any problems with mine. TD4 engine mind. Not the petrol.

Is there a reason why you'd prefer a freelander or terrano?

There's plenty of choice in similar sized 4x4's.

Shogun/pajero swb, fourtrak, rav4....all for similar money too.

You can find decent pickups for £3k too, they just take a little longer to find in good nick.

Cheers

No just thought they might be the better options, although this is not backed up by any expert knowledge. I'll have a good look at the various options everyone's mentioned

Thanks for the advice.
