How are the veggies coming along?

Hessian sacks usually. I haven't grown very many this year so at the moment I'm leaving them in the ground and lifting them as I needed.

 

I planted them in a hurry during lockdown and didn't really leave enough space so they weren't earthed up as high as they might have been and I could have produced a lot more. Each plant is still giving a big shovelful of spuds though and some of them are massive. 

Don't know what variety they are. My mother gave me a small bagful of seed potatoes and I just stuck them in. They look like King Edwards but they are more floury. Make great roasties.

Lifted  my  spuds  2 month ago. They will of  rotted by now if left in ground  and being eaten by keel slugs as its being a very wet late summer/autumn. Soil here is heavy clay and is often very water logged at this time of yr...

 

Often they get blighted fairly early in season - dependent on Hutton Criteria.

So tend too end up cutting the haulms off then lift 2 weeks after when soil is dry.

 

I use the paper  sacks that hen corn comes in to store them. Good too sort through the bags now and then as rotten ones can spoil a whole bag.

Low temp is important for storage  also cold dark and humid but  with ventilation and rat proof.

Store them in  a shed with apples.

 

 

 

 

Sqaushes have done well this yrs still got them to harvest. 

Found the  jap Uchiki kuri type  has really good flavour. Got the seeds from ebay.

Had some nice Crown Prince pumpkins this year. Really nice roasted like spuds.

Quite a few marrows too but the skins are a bit hard as I didn't get enough water into them. Taste alright though.
