30 inch bar 3/8 1.6mm mix of felling and rigging up, conifer , beech, poplar ash, and willow and horse chestnut

30" should be fine. Is it big stuff where you can bury the bar full length or sub 30" ? I run 660 with 30" but only for ringing up big stuff like 36"+never used it to fell owt as always use a 460 with 20" bar. Is your chain sharp ? As our 660 cuts well when sharp but seems to dull off after 4-5 hours in beech syc oak etc but will fly through larch spruce and Scotts pine all day long.

I know what you mean rob.

I used to use a 056super and a051. Both ran better than my new 661.

I must have ran at least 10+ tanks before it bedded in.

Now it's my general saw.

Not amazing torque at low revs, but at at high revs with a decent chain it's unstoppable. 36" bar buried in oak no problems.

And compared to my 056,051,075,880 it's really light.

Not sure how long it'll last though.

really i only use the saw on 26inch wide plus bits of wood sharpened each day well the night before work and around lunch time again if needed. the bogging / feel of less power to me seem to com in at 28inch to full bar burry deep.

Do you know any one else with one you could compare yours with ? As I would think a new saw should be OK as the 661 is rated to have more power than 660 . I would be looking at trying another one as your dealer may be filling you with bulls--t ,I have a 241 that gets a lot of use,at the start it was pants tryed another one of a lad and different saw all together more power quick throttle response told dealer to sort or money back please ended up putting new ecu thing on it never been any trouble since but dealer told me it was fine there's nothing wrong with it .

don't know anyone local who has one to try a comparison and local dealer who looked at is wasn't the person i bought it from. it might just be me thinking its not as good as i hoped it to be, as im comparing it to a 395xp ported

Rob this is where the problem arises as a stock 395xp is a fair machine and a ported one is savage. So it's an unfair comparison.

I would give it a liberal muffler mod with dual outlet and add 25-50 ml. more 2 stroke oil per 5 l aspen/petrol , so it's running on 40-1 or 32-1, the extra oil increases compression slightly, the muffler mod lets the saw rew faster and hold high revs in the cut.

And it's a simple 15 minute job, just make sure ALL shavings are blown/washed out the muffler, before you bolt it back on the cylinder
