Ear protection

Possibly a stupid question. What ear protection do people here use/recommend? Suffering from ringing ears with old pair, I could do with some better ones. Ideally comfortable but also tight enough that they wont deafen me when I turn my head using a chipper... Also would an snr of 50 be too high to hear others in emergencies? Most interested in helmet mounted ones.

Custom Made, Personally Moulded Ear Plugs from Mercury Hearing

Mercury hearing do custom moulded ear plugs which the basic ones are £70 but you'll never need another set. They do mouldings at the head quarters or They are at lots of the big trade shows and Fayers. They fit under any ear defenders. And are equilivent to 30snr ear defenders I believe.

i currently use peltor III ear defenders and had an old set that the band had snapped on. they weren't that old so i stuffed the foam from the broken ones into the new ones and there is a marked difference in quietness. they were originally rated at 37snr (i think) but must be in the 40's now or even approaching 50.

The best in ear defenders I have used are the Boots muffles wax ear plugs. They seem to block the most noise out and are super comfy and just a couple of quid for a few pairs. Also they don't chafe your ears like the foam ones can.
