Had a phone call from a distraught customer that had a " tree surgeon " in to pollard her willow. They charged her £1200 and after the first day asked for £800 up front because they needed to pay for the chipper hire..... this is what they left so cowboys sometimes aint cheep !

customers that just want the cheapest price are not worth the time it takes to price the job. whats worse for the industry, putting in a fair price and then adding to it because your now expected to clean up some cowboys mess, or putting in a cheap price then offering to come in and clean up some cowboys mess for even less? imagine this,

Bob "just got a few trees removed buy a local guy, not a tree surgeon but got the job done"

Neighbour "weren't you worried about giving the job to an amateur?"

Bob "nah if he didn't do a good enough job you can always get a professional in to fix it. works out cheaper that way, get the handyman to do the donkey work and the pro to finish it off!"

There was no way I was going back to tidy up a bomb site, yer I felt a bit sorry for the guy but like said it's a PITA trying to pull a heap of brash apart

Like also said, who needs costomers like that cheep skates

If they can afford the cheap option and then your expensive option they are not cheap skates they are mis informed or have a lack of knowledge in the tree game. It is up to you to justify the work you will carry out for the price you are asking.

By refusing to go back to tidy someone's mess up out of spite rather than for a good wage is only reaffirming why they didn't use you in the 1st place.

You may be hands down better at the job than the cowboys however the cowboys sales pitch is on the money, like previously stated they also charge top dollar in most instances.

We had a similar job . Wind blown tree in garden . Customer said too expensive , will get my gardener to do it . Two weeks later can you come and finish it off ? As you guessed it brash pointing every which way ( I have cut it up small for you ) so there is not enough length to feed in . Several failed attempts at ringing up the stem ( looked like done with a nail file ) BUT we got another three jobs from him so worth it in the end .
