Ochsenkopf vs Gransfors vs Fiskars Splitting Axe/Maul?

Simple answer is - if one is getting stuck, bouncing off, or is just proving to be hard work I put it down and try an alternative. Sometimes an axe is better than a maul and sometimes something in between (like gransfors splitting axe works best). I hand split all my logs and some of them are up to 18 inches. If you haven't tried alternatives when splitting give it a go.

I also think i'd not b too keen on using an expesive axe to batter in a wood grenade (plus as a kid always drummed into me at scouts never to use an axe as a hammer for safety reasons and its always stayed with me.)

Gransfors and Wetterlings mauls are designed for it. They have hammer polls.

Husqvarna Maul / Sledge Axe

Looks identical to the Gransfors Bruks version except does not have metal collar to protect against overstrike.

Under £100/-

Gets thru pretty much anything.

Swedish design narrow head but wide flare so does not often bounce off.
