Huh?.

Oops, I was supposed to use your quote that Mark replied to

"Nonsense, the more idiots, hackers, gardeners with ropes and ladders the better.Lowers the bar, makes the better equipped, more experienced amongst us look like the A Team. They'll always be low rent firms in the business because it's an easy buck at the low end."

Ok, explain, "pulling all the nice jobs out of the industry"

And "doing something other than tree work in their spare time"

I think it all hinges on your market. The market being, people with not a lot of money and a PITA tree to sort out up to the wealthy rich types who think everyone is out to rip them off so there is no way they are being more than the lowest quote available.

The less people pulling all the nice jobs out of the industry while driving their cab, putting out fires and in general doing something unrelated to tree work in their 'spare' time the better.

:congrats::congrats:

It's pointless railing against low rent tree workers, totally pointless.

They'll always be there, because it's easy money at the low end of the spectrum. Apple trees, ladder work, hedges etc, no need for fancy gear or training.

If you're consistently losing significant work then "skill up" or get some equipment then they won't enter your universe.

It's like some people are saying "I wish they'd all stop so people can't use them (and save money) and I can put my prices up"

Not going to happen.

Thing is a few years back chippers were rare and expensive. When I First started I would not see another chipper from one month to the next, customers were intrigued when they saw mine, as they had never seen one before.

These days it's very rare for me to go a day without seeing a another chipper, often see 2 or more. They are everywhere.

As Mark says, this leads to all the easy jobs, the cream, where you would do it on the way home after another job or do 5 or 6 in a day and make really good coin are gone.

15 years ago I was making far more than I am now, it was great!

They've not gone, they're still there, it's just that you're not doing them.

Probably for you, with a Mog and all that, the "cherry on cake" jobs as I call them are in the past, they're going to people lower down the food chain, which is sort of how it should be.

Yes thats the point! They are being done for peanuts by the unskilled, because the equipment is cheap and available.

I do still get some, but not like I used to.

Same in most jobs now, YouTube and google are probably a big factor, you can get a step by step instructional vid on almost anything now, plenty diy builders out there now, not going to be any different for you guys in the gardening game.
