Anyone else suffer with this bastard thing?

I'm really struggling with it at the moment, but can't understand why.

I've got most things that people would be happy with, a nice home, good missus, some money in the bank and enough work to get a few quid each week, but depression is really getting me down.

I had a spate of it many years ago when I had a serious illness, the doctor gave me some pills that made me feel like a zombie so I don't really want to go down that route again.

Any advice out there?

see GP (Dr) you could try a low dose of an anti depressant, the doc will need your exact symptoms, to match a antidepressant to them, many types with different effects. also could ask to see a specialist for some CBT.

Can try setting yourself little goals, each day, then try and achieve them, then a bit more each day etc.

The very best of luck

I would strongly advise against that. Not to be specific on an open forum someone I know went on pills for depression. They caused night terrors a deepening depression (which they all do for the first 2 weeks) and suicidal thoughts which ultimately led to a suicide attempt. A gp will not be trained properly and will give them out like candy but without realising the full effects. Even coming off them causes problems (research it along with brain zaps)

They don't even know how the majority work so how you think Doctors can give specific medication is beyond me.

Many people go through hell trying to find the right one considering they take 6 weeks to work it's a long process.

They have there place but if I'm honest they work for people that have mild symptoms.

Agreed,

My mother was prescribed anti-depressants by her GP, when examined to see what she was taking, it stated quite clearly on the packaging "not to be prescribed to elderly patients"

She was 78 then which in my opinion is elderly - clearly such pill pushers are on a bung & dont give a toss.

I feel much better knowing I'm not the only one that is as mad as a balloon.

The thought of seeing Ian C's face when he's handing over a fiver to get me a pint is priceless.

The down side is thinking about sharing a tent with Bolam and Newton...... That's just wrong in so many ways.

Thanks for the reply's.

Probably best given the swerve. You don't want to add PTSD to the problem. :scared1:

Ive argued and disagreed with many on this forum about different subjects that were passionate about, but seeing many giving advice and just reassuring others that they are not alone is a great thing indeed.

Its threads like this that remind us all how amazing and uplifting arbtalk and those on it can be.
