Do eucs like heavy pollarding

Eureka California has a huge long row of Eucalyptus that apparently lost top growth to cold weather some decades ago, and they were all topped. All seem to have recovered. I wouldn't call topping good. But it looks like the species can handle some damage and recover.

Can be a recipe for massive limb failures years down the track, so be mindful of it.

But if pollarding lives up to what the name means, that the limbs are cut off every year, how can there be "massive" limb failure if no massive limbs are allowed to grow from the cuts?

There is no such thing as a heavy pollard, that would be topping. Generally not good for trees but some will regenerate, e.g. lime and plane.

How are you defining this?

Do you mean the trees no long look the way you like? no longer look natural?

Some of, if not all of the oldest trees we have in this country were "topped" at some point in the distant past, if this has prolonged their lives how can it be deemed as "not good for trees"?

Because not all topped trees are going to come back with avengance, some will succumb to stress and slowly start to decline as you have removed all of its photosynthetic capacity, eposed huge wounds for pathogen invasion and it now doesn't have much means to defend itself.
