We've had a couple sniffing around the kids rabbits cage this winter, never seen them in the garden before. A local farmer said he's had more this year than previous years ?

He's right Bear, this year has seen rat numbers reach an all time high.

I am on top of them up at my main yard now, but it's taken a lot of poison to do them all in.

Can I ask a stupid question here.

Why do rats want to live where the chickens do. Do they eat the chicken feed? I've never seen them at the feeder. If they aren't eating the food and costing me money, then that is one problem not to be bothered by. But why are they there? I wondered if they eat a lot of the bugs and stuff that will come with the fertile soil.

Our big problem is the tunnels that are all over the place which give way when you walk over them to collect eggs, fill the food and water up etc. It is possible that you could twist an ankle or something. That's expensive, and so wiping out a few rats doesn't bother me. But other than that, what is the problem with them being there. It's a genuine question... I spend a lot of time thinking about them, watching out for them and trying to trap or kill them. But really, is there any point?
