Pathetic workrate of rail arb gang

I picked some work up a wile ago "job orders" all little jobs really so started doing 3 a & got told to ease up so I done 2 a day again told to slow down so I'm now on 1 a day, turns out the guys we took over from was doing 1 every 7 to 10 days lol maddness !!

 

I ended up on a 3 day week claiming for 5 lovely bread n butter work

Rail arb and veg work is like torture if you have any work ethic. I did about a year on it a few years ago, couldn't stand it any longer. It's true, you rely on the coss before you can go lineside, then get told your making others look bad, then the supervisor comes along and tells everyone to slow down! Then occasionally there's a mad rush on a job due to a surprise inspection that the same supervisor rings and warns you about! Madness, and no job satisfaction at all...

I also work on the rail, why rush ? "Onless its price work" which is rare these days we're bogged down with train movements h&s meathard statement,s weather etc I'm on LUL as it's even cusher then NR

Work I could do in a day takes a week "more money for me as I get day rate for my boys"

 

 

Iv even been told to slow down by management when I was only doing an hour a day to start with

 

What a shocking attitude. Disgraceful.

What can be done about it though?

 

I'm talking about being told to slow down by management, would you say "sorry I'm working at my pace", and risk losing the job?, in turn laying lads off.

 

It's not right but it goes on with lots of big companies.

That's a Bag on, except on network rail you can work 24/7 on lul it's mainly nights "engineering hours" so no one is about or checks days "traffic hours"

 

On nights we start at 01:00 & finish no later then 04:00 no agg parking no traffic

It's a sweet gig

 

I won't say how much I earn but let's just say it's not too shabby

Not on rail, but worked with similar people and I just can't do it, I can take more time without lots of pressure to keep all my kit maintained but it's simply pointless pretending to work while going off to the cafe and sitting around hoping nobody turns up .. find it a lot less fulfilling and more stressful than just cracking on and doing a good job. Thing is you know managers at every level are making their own share of it too..
