No ... companies that hat rack should be prosecuted in my opinion , does the tree no favours and makes it unsafe for future climbers and the home owner and general public going near it.

Classic " round over " Not ideal for the tree but sometimes its what the paying customer wants .

It's a bad pracitice that is sometimes required for 'bad' trees (dysfunctional). That doesn't appear to be a bad one, but unless you know the full story...

Joe the customer can In nearly all cases be talked out of mutilating there trees when explained why it does them and the tree no favours. I honestly think it's just down to lack of skill set and laziness this still gets done , I mean it's easy, takes no skill ! Listen to that video of Jonny quick where he describes how he wrecks a whole borough of trees and became the best paid climber in the London, it's just greed.

Any way my back is right up on this as I keep getting photos of trees from passers by of the trees that we looked after for over 25 years completely wrecked by a tool on this forum .. you know who you are and don't ever message me again telling me how good it is to have my old customers you might be at the other end of the country but I will certainly not recommended your services.

Why is the type of work in the OP bad for the tree? What makes cutting the limbs the way they are dangerous for future climbers?

I normally explain this, and the cycle of repeated future costs that it's going to start. Generally works for me.

 

 

Edit. And the rapid regrowth and more shade than they had before. I also explain the benefits to the contractor, coming back every few years to do it again, wonder why it's advised!
