What were the breaking strains of the ropes you used Reg? There must have been some high shock loads involved there. Nice vid

would chunky chains around the butt to the stump of worked? always think of chains as being tougher but maybe they arent so good with shock loading?

not criticizing at all, never done that kind of thing really.

We were probably good to resist up to 12,000 KGF.

 

Chains would work, sure....but I dont have any. And consider, those lines were also positioned in such a way so the log could be cut and lowered down the hill thereafter. Thanks.

if you use chains with grab hooks be aware that they can pop off when the log bounces and tension is released. I had two chains on one log, one held one popped off. aye squeaky bum.
