shame, although its a wonder it didnt fall sooner with that epic tunnel through it!

I'm sad, I look at cute little animals and think barbeque, I see this and think how many cube of firewood would you get out of it?

Was there another cause that could have 'helped' it to it fall...?

 

OK, they had rain / storms etc, but what if they had felled trees in the vicinity to then 'expose' that tree to the wind and rain....?

I have several photos that enlarge big enough to see that there had to be a cavity in it before they cut some away for the tunnel people see. It's evident by the natural looking curves and shapes of aged wood within that has a much different look from chainsaw or ax work. Plus black charred remnants from old fires. Now that I look closely, it's doubtful the extra cutting altered its strength much.

 

It may be a note worth adding to my drive through coast redwoods page:

I saw a pic of this tree when I was about seven or somethin, Its funny how the memory plays tricks on you..

I had visions of a two lane highway running through that thing. If I had to rely on memory thats how I would of thought of it still till I seen this pic... And yet, look at it, barley wide enough to get a goat through it..

 

 

Still, I'm glad its down. Never sat well with me even back then, to cut a gaping wound in a tree for no good reason.... vandalism at its worst......
