Tractor insurance?

The DVLA have a list of 'approved' clubs that can help you with registering your tractor. Or there are independent people like Thomas Andrews, 01726 883195, who specialise in tractor registrations.

You will need to register your tractor as you'll be amazed how many times you want to move or tow something or do a bit of mowing somewhere, all on the public highway. I'd be totally lost without mine.

It's free to tax a tractor so no major drama if you need to

Agricultural tractors are free tax.

This is for private non agricultural use.

Also worth knowing that dep on weights (over 3500kg MAM) you might not be able to drive a tractor used for non agricultural purposes on a cat B licence.

Its simple to register tractors and machinery, its not the same can of worms that apply to cars. All you need is proof of purchase, proof of year of manufacture if you want age related plates , go with a q if you cant, insurance , the relevant dvla form and thats it.

When I enquired with dvla last year about registering my Kubota, they were insistent on date of manufacture, import paperwork, was vat or import duty paid?. CE certificate required, none of which I could answer. I think it was form v62 and around £55 to register if I could supply all the details

I decided not to bother in the end,the tractor only does around 9mph and I did think about the safety aspect as well.

iirc the OP got his tractor from the same dealer as me so I will see how he gets on.

I think you must have got a wrongun on the phone, some of them are clueless. I have done a few over the years and they have been free to register and tax, it was all made easy when they had dvla offices dotted about and a person sat in front of you that knew his stuff. Anyway they have all been shut so you need tick box V55/5 and v355/5 ( I think) in here.............. https://forms.dft.gov.uk/order-dvla-forms/

it could be for forestry, or horticultural use..........both free, and as long as its registred as either an agricultural machine or an agricultural tractor, then taxation class is free, irrespective of use, its the class thats taxed, not the use

Sadly you are miss informed.

Whilst it is true you can register it as you see fit it is the use that defines what it is.

Just like farmers cant use the tractor to do haulage or even go to the shops for the weekly food.

So if stopped cutting the local parks grass (or other non agri stuff) after driving it on the road you will need it to be taxed, MOTed (actually inspected) running on tax paid fuel etc etc.

Thanks for the input all.

Will sort some Insurance, and think about road registration. If it's simple it.might be worth it just in case, but in reality it's too slow for me.to want to take.it on the roads round me! I don't have CE form, any import docs, not sure I even have proof of purchase!
